🏅 How to get Google Play Services for AR Android for unsupported devices

What is augmented reality (AR)?

Augmented reality uses your device to merge digital content with the real world. Unlike virtual reality (VR), no additional headsets, glasses, or equipment are required. Instead, you will only need your device’s camera and an AR app. ARCore is the platform created by Google to create augmented reality experiences. It was presented in 2017, a few months after the announcement of Apple’s ARkit, and it is the search engine company’s bet to compete in the war for augmented reality.

With the use of different APIs for developers, ARCore allows your phone to be used to analyze and detect its environment and understand the world around it. This means that your mobile will analyze the site where you are using its camera and different sensors, will make an internal map of the place, and with this information you will be able to implement augmented reality.

To use Google Play Services for AR, you need an Android device with the following:

  • A Google Account
  • ARCore Certification
  • At least 1 GB of free space
  • At least one AR app installed
  • An unmeasured mobile network
